About Us: Founded in 2001 and located in Harlem, The Reading Team is a dedicated organization that provides evidence-based literacy programs to children in Pre-K through 5th grades in New York City. All programs are thoughtfully designed, focusing on essential components such as phonics, explicit comprehension strategies, oral and written expression, and analytical skills.
Over the course of our existence, we have proudly fostered substantial literacy growth and academic achievements for over 10,000 children hailing from economically challenged backgrounds and underserved neighborhoods. Role Overview: You will serve as a member of a 15 person team and work with children from grades K to 5. As a Teaching Assistant, you will assist one of our classroom teachers at:
PS 180 on 370 W. 120th Street, shift options between Mon.-Fri. from 2:30p-5:30p
Our Lady of Lourdes, shift options between Mon.-Thurs. from 2:30p-5:30p.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist team in student transitions (e.g. cafe to gym, classroom, etc.).
- Assist teachers in classroom with:
- Small reading groups/read-alongs.
- Homework completion.
- Tablet support when using literacy applications.
- Escort students to dismissal.
